You are frustrated with your mask acne and you don’t know how to get rid of this skin enemy. Don’t worry, we have solution for this annoying issue. During this covid situation you can’t ditch mask. But good news is you certainly can get rid of maskne.
why mask acne causes?
There are several reasons behind mask acne. One main reason is that wearing a mask causes mechanical friction. When your mask rubs against your skin it causes skin irritation which leads to breakouts.
Some masks contain chemicals like Formaldehyde and Bronopol. These chemicals can also cause allergic contact dermatitis.
Wearing a mask when you breathe or talk, it creates a humid environment underneath your mask. Humidity can cause overgrowth of bacteria which produces acne.
Wearing a mask for a long time can also clog your pores. As a result, clogged pores cause breakouts.
If you have a sensitive and oily skin mask again can cause maskne.
HOW TO GET RID OF MASK ACNE:
wash your face:
You need to wash your face twice a day. When you come back home the first thing you need to do is take off your mask and wash your face immediately. This step sounds simple but most effective. This would prevent dirt and oil from being trapped on the skin surface. Thus, your skin pores will not clog and breakouts will not occur.
use salicylic acid face wash:
The first step I mentioned is how to prevent mask acne. Now what would you do when you already developed maskne. In that case salicylic acid face wash is best option. You can use Saslic Foaming Face Wash. It has 1% salicylic acid in it. Another face wash is Saslic DS Face Wash. It has 2% salicylic acid in it. I have used both of these face washes. Trust me salicylic acid face wash is really good to treat mask acne.
spot treatment for maskne:
Most acne spot treatments contain either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide as active ingredients. You can use pimple spot patch and directly apply it on the active acne. Acne spot patches help to dry out the active acne and help to reduce redness. You can try Nykaa Skin Secrets Tea Tree & Salicylic Acid Spot Patch. This product is great to reduce acne size. But remember everyone’s skin is different. So, if one product does not work on your skin don’t get dishearten. There are different products available in the market. First you need to know your skin type and what type of acne do you generally get. Then try and test which product works best on your skin. For example, tea tree oil is great to treat acne. But, tea tree oil does not work on every skin type. You can also use 2.5% Benzoyl peroxide to treat maskne. Benzoyl peroxide is drying and it leaves mark on skin. So do not use too much of the product.
say no to makeup when you have maskne:
Mask can cause sweat and your foundation, blush can mix up with sweat and oil. Thus, it can clog your pores and can make your breakouts more severe. So, if you already have maskne then skip makeup.
skip facial scrub:
Do not use a physical exfoliator when you have active acne. It can make your maskne worse. Rather it is better to use topical medication to treat acne.
opt for chemical exfoliator:
Every type of chemical exfoliator is not for every skin type. You can opt for a mild chemical exfoliator with salicylic acid in it. Always start with a mild percentage and do not forget to do patch test. My skin has greatly improved after using a chemical exfoliator.
use non-comedogenic moisturizer:
Non-comedogenic moisturizers are those which do not clog skin pores. Apply non-comedogenic moisturizer. It would act as a barrier between your skin and mask. Thus, moisturizer will prevent friction with the mask. Opt for moisturizers which contain ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or dimethicone.
use face toners:
If you have oily skin try oil balancing face toners. Always go for alcohol free toner. If you are not allergic to aloe vera then you can try Pixie Glow Toner. It has glycolic acid in it. It gently exfoliates skin and promotes cell renewal.
maintain hand hygiene:
Do not touch your face without washing your hand. Our hands can infect our face. So, wash your hands properly.
which mask is best for you:
Silk or silk-lined masks have antimicrobial properties and are gentle on skin. You can also opt for a cotton mask. Cotton masks will help reduce production of sweat. It is best to carry a spare mask with you. When you feel sweat underneath your mask, you can change it and wear the spare one.
wash your mask:
Like your face you need to wash your face mask too. Its surface contains dirt, germ, oil and sweat . so, wash your mask after using it.
do not wash mask with harsh detergent:
Yes, use gentle and fragrance free detergent to wash your mask because some detergent can irritate your skin.
use aloe vera gel:
If you are not allergic to aloe vera then after washing your face apply aloe vera gel. It will soothe your skin. But remember, do not use aloe vera if you are allergic to it.
home remedy:
Okay, home remedies do work to some extent. If you have so many acne then home remedies will not work fast. For me, home remedies work better to remove acne spots. But to cure acne and mask acne I trust more on the above mentioned steps. However, during my teenage days I used to apply a face pack which worked well for me. So, I am sharing the recipe of the face pack with you. You will need neem leaves or neem powder, multani mitti and rose water. You can add a pinch of turmeric. Remember turmeric does not suit everyone and it can strain your face. Mix all of these ingredients and keep it on your face for 15 to 20 minutes. Then wash it off with normal water. This face pack controls oil production. Neem has antibacterial properties. Thus, it helps to remove acne. You can also add liquorice powder with this face pack if you want a brighter skin tone.
These are my tips to get rid of mask acne. If these tips do not solve your problem then you will need a dermatologist. However, if my tips are useful for you then comment down below. It’ll make me happy.
